Arusha → Tarangire — Elephant Country & Maasai Culture
After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive south towards Tarangire National Park through Maasai countryside. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours, passing through traditional Maasai boma settlements.
Stop at a Maasai boma for a cultural visit before entering the park. Watch traditional jumping dances, learn about Maasai cattle herding, and see the intricate beadwork that tells stories of age, status, and family. The Maasai have lived alongside wildlife in this region for centuries, and their semi-nomadic lifestyle is inseparable from the landscape.
Enter Tarangire and begin your afternoon game drive along the Tarangire River. Tarangire is home to the largest concentration of elephants in Tanzania, with herds of up to 300 individuals.
Arrive at Tarangire Safari Lodge perched on a ridge overlooking the Tarangire Valley. Dinner is served in the restaurant with views of the floodlit waterhole.
