Sustainability Policy

Travel that gives back to Tanzania

Tanzania is our home. The mountains, the wildlife, the communities — they're not just a backdrop for your adventure, they're the reason we do what we do. We believe that tourism should leave places better than we found them, and we're committed to making every trip count.

Supporting Local Communities

We're proud to be a Tanzanian company, and we believe the people who live here should benefit from the tourism industry. Here's how we make that happen:

  • Local employment: We hire local guides, porters, drivers, and support staff from Moshi and surrounding communities. Good jobs mean stronger families and stronger villages.
  • Local suppliers: We buy our food, equipment, and supplies from local businesses wherever possible. Your trip keeps money circulating in the communities you visit.
  • Community contributions: A portion of every booking goes toward local community projects — from school supplies to clean water initiatives. We believe in giving back to the places that welcome us.

Environmental Protection

The landscapes you'll explore are extraordinary, and we want them to stay that way for generations to come.

  • Leave-no-trace policy: On every trip, we pack out everything we bring in. No litter, no waste left behind. We teach this to our guests and lead by example.
  • No single-use plastics: We provide reusable water bottles and water refill stations on all our trips. You won't find plastic straws, cups, or bags in our operations.
  • Eco-friendly accommodation: We choose lodges and camps that use solar power, rainwater harvesting, and other sustainable practices wherever possible.
  • Responsible waste management: We work with lodges and camps that have proper waste disposal systems, including composting and recycling wherever available.

Wildlife Conservation

Seeing a lion, elephant, or leopard in the wild is a privilege — not a right. We take our responsibility to protect wildlife seriously.

  • Anti-poaching support: We contribute to anti-poaching initiatives and conservation organizations working to protect Tanzania's endangered species.
  • Park rules always: Our guides follow all park regulations to the letter — maintaining safe distances from animals, staying on designated roads, and respecting speed limits.
  • Respectful wildlife viewing: We never crowd animals, chase wildlife, or use loud noises to get a reaction. Patience gets better photos and happier animals.

Fair Wages & Working Conditions

We believe everyone who works on our trips deserves fair treatment. That means:

  • Paying all staff above minimum wage — including porters and guides on Kilimanjaro
  • Providing proper equipment, food, and shelter for mountain crews
  • Ensuring reasonable working hours and rest days
  • Maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or exploitation

Carbon Awareness

We know that flying to Tanzania has a carbon footprint. While we can't eliminate that, we encourage our guests to consider carbon offset options. We're also exploring partnerships with local tree-planting initiatives so your trip can help restore Tanzania's forests.

Our Promise

Every trip we run should contribute positively to Tanzania — to its people, its wildlife, and its natural beauty. We're not perfect, and we're always looking for ways to do better. But we promise that when you travel with Bush Lion Tours, your adventure makes a difference.

Have ideas on how we can improve? We'd love to hear from you at info@bushliontours.com.
