8-Day Ndutu Migration Footsteps — Calving Season Safari (Dec-Apr)

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park — known as the Land of Giants. This park is famous for its ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, and for having the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. During the dry season, hundreds of elephants gather along the Tarangire River. You will also spot lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and over 550 bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, then continue with afternoon game drives before heading to your lodge in Karatu.

After an early breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a stop at the crater rim for breathtaking views. Continue across the conservation area, passing Maasai villages and vast open plains, before entering Serengeti National Park from the south. The Serengeti is truly spectacular — famous for its endless golden grasslands and incredible wildlife density. Enjoy afternoon game drives en route to your camp in Central Serengeti.

A full day of game drives in the Central Serengeti. This area is known for its high predator density — lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas are regularly spotted. The Seronera Valley is particularly rich in wildlife, with permanent water sources attracting animals year-round. Enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives with lunch at camp.

After breakfast, drive south through the Serengeti toward the Ndutu region in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is where the Great Migration gathers between December and April. The Ndutu plains are the stage for one of nature greatest spectacles — the calving season. Over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born within a three-week window, attracting Africa highest concentration of predators. The landscape is different here — open grasslands, alkaline lakes, and scattered acacia woodlands.

Today is the highlight of your safari — a full day in Ndutu witnessing the Great Migration calving season. Explore the range of different habitats including swamps, woodland, and savannah. You will see vast crowds of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes, sometimes stretching to the horizon. The sound of wildebeest gently mooing is hauntingly beautiful. Watch as newborn calves take their first steps, and witness the raw drama of nature as cheetahs, lions, and hyenas hunt in the tall grass. This is a life-changing experience.

After breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The crater was formed when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself 2-3 million years ago. Descend 610 metres into the caldera for a half-day game drive. The crater shelters over 25,000 animals including the endangered black rhino, large lion prides, elephants, flamingos, and more than 500 bird species. After the game drive, ascend the crater wall and drive to your lodge in Karatu.

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park — a compact but incredibly diverse park nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, vast flocks of flamingos (seasonal), and thick evergreen groundwater forest where baboons and elephants roam. Enjoy a morning game drive along the lakeshore and through the forest, with a picnic lunch inside the park. After the game drive, transfer to Arusha, Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), or Arusha Airport for your departure.
