After breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The crater was formed when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself 2-3 million years ago. Descend 610 metres into the caldera for a half-day game drive. The crater shelters over 25,000 animals including the endangered black rhino, large lion prides, elephants, flamingos, and more than 500 bird species. After the game drive, ascend the crater wall and drive to your lodge in Karatu.

The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, vast flocks of flamingos (seasonal), and thick evergreen groundwater forest where baboons and elephants roam.
