After a brief introduction over fresh tropical fruit juice, step into the market's vibrant aisles. Your guide will explain the market's history and introduce you to the vendors, traders, and daily rhythms that make Kariakoo the beating heart of the city.
Leave the market and walk into Moshi's colonial heritage quarter. Your guide will lead you past the old German railway station, the historic Lutheran mission compound, and the former district commissioner's residence — all beautifully preserved examples of early 20th-century German and British colonial architecture.
The final leg of your tour takes you to a family-run coffee roastery tucked in one of Moshi's quieter lanes. Here, you'll learn how coffee arrived on the slopes of Kilimanjaro in the 1890s, how it became the backbone of Moshi's economy, and why Tanzanian single-origin beans are now prized by specialty roasters worldwide. The tour runs for approximately 4 hours from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early for a smooth start.
This is an easy walking tour covering approximately 4 km on flat terrain. Suitable for all fitness levels. Comfortable walking shoes recommended.
No special vaccinations are required for this day trip. Anti-malaria prophylaxis is recommended if you are staying overnight in Moshi. Consult a travel clinic before departure.
