Fitness Requirements
Ol Doinyo Lengai climb is physically demanding. You should be able to hike 6-8 hours on steep, uneven terrain. Previous trekking experience is recommended but not mandatory.
Altitude
The summit is at 2,962m (9,718ft). No high-altitude acclimatization is needed, but be prepared for cool temperatures at the top.
What to Bring
Sturdy hiking boots, trekking poles, headlamp, warm layers, sun protection, camera, insect repellent, and a sense of adventure.
Best Time to Visit
June to October (dry season) offers the best conditions for climbing and flamingo viewing. The climb is possible year-round but trails can be slippery during rains.
Maasai Guide Tip
It is customary to tip your Maasai mountain guide $40-70 at the end of the climb.
Age Limit
Minimum age for Ol Doinyo Lengai climb is 12 years. Children under 12 can do the Lake Natron activities only.
