7-Day Safari — Crater Rim Walking & Maasai Cultural Experience

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park — known as the Land of Giants. This park is famous for its ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, and for having the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. You will also spot lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and over 550 bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, then continue with afternoon game drives before heading to your lodge.

After an early breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a stop at the crater rim for breathtaking views. Continue across the conservation area, passing Maasai villages and vast open plains, before entering Serengeti National Park from the south. The Serengeti is truly spectacular — famous for its endless golden grasslands and incredible wildlife density. Enjoy afternoon game drives en route to your camp in Central Serengeti.

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Serengeti. Start with an early morning game drive when predators are most active. The Serengeti boasts an abundance of wildlife including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, and hyenas. The park is also home to over 500 bird species. Choose between morning and afternoon game drives with lunch at camp, or a full-day excursion with picnic lunch.

After an early breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive through the Serengeti. Then drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way, stop at an authentic Maasai village for a unique cultural experience — learn about traditional fire-making, beadwork, and meet the villagers in their homes. Your guide will interpret for you. After the Maasai visit, drive to the crater rim for the highlight of your trip — a sunset walking safari with an armed ranger. Walk along the crater rim exploring extinct volcanoes, breathtaking landscapes, and wildlife in the beautiful highlands. The views are truly unforgettable. After approximately 2-2.5 hours, drive to your lodge for dinner.

After breakfast, descend 610 metres into the Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Africa. The crater was formed when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself 2-3 million years ago. The crater floor offers the best game viewing in Tanzania with approximately 25,000 animals including wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant, and more than 500 bird species. With luck, you may spot the endangered black rhino through the grass. After an extensive game drive and picnic lunch, ascend the crater wall and drive to your lodge in Karatu.

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park — a compact but incredibly diverse park nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, vast flocks of flamingos (seasonal), and thick evergreen groundwater forest where baboons and elephants roam. Enjoy a morning game drive along the lakeshore and through the forest, with a picnic lunch inside the park. After the game drive, transfer to Arusha, Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), or Arusha Airport for your departure.
