3-Day Mikumi Safari from Dar es Salaam by SGR Train — Walking Safari & Maasai Visit

After breakfast, a full day of game drives in Mikumi National Park. Mikumi extensive flat plains give outstanding visibility for wildlife sightings and photography. The park supports some of the best lion populations in southern Tanzania, alongside large herds of elephants, buffalo, and impala, and the permanent hippo pools along the Mkata River. Mikumi is often called the Serengeti of the south for its open landscape and wildlife density. A picnic lunch is taken at one of the park scenic sites before the afternoon drive continues until evening.

The morning begins with a guided walking safari in Mikumi National Park led by a park ranger. Walking allows you to observe wildlife at close range, identify animal tracks, learn about plants and the bush ecosystem, and experience the park in a fundamentally different way from a vehicle. After the walk, a visit to a nearby Maasai community provides an introduction to traditional pastoralist culture, with a short cultural performance and the opportunity to meet local people. After the visit, drive to Morogoro station for the afternoon SGR train back to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the evening.
