Quick Facts
Why Choose the Rongai Route?
The Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the northern side, near the Kenyan border. It's the driest route on the mountain, receiving significantly less rainfall than the southern routes. This means you're more likely to have clear skies and great views.
The route is also the quietest on Kilimanjaro. While hundreds of trekkers use the southern routes daily, the Rongai Route typically sees only a handful of groups. If you want a more wilderness experience and to feel like you have the mountain to yourself, Rongai is the route for you.
The northern approach passes through pristine forest where you may spot elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife that roam the lower slopes. The gradual ascent profile provides excellent acclimatization with a 96% summit success rate.
