Day by day itinerary

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly welcomed by our Bush Lion Tours representative. You will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi. At the hotel, you will meet your mountain guide for a full briefing, equipment check, and final preparation for the climb. Overnight at a comfortable hotel on bed & breakfast basis.

After breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel to Londorossi Gate for registration. From here, the trek begins through lush rainforest filled with towering trees, birds, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The trail is gentle and ideal for warming up your body for the days ahead. After several hours of walking, you arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, where your team prepares dinner and your first night on the mountain.

Today you leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone. The trail opens up with wide views as you climb steadily onto the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world. You will notice the landscape changing to shrubs and grasses, with Kilimanjaro’s peaks becoming more visible. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp with beautiful sunset views.

This is a shorter and relaxed day designed for acclimatization. You walk across the Shira Plateau with panoramic views of Mount Meru in the distance and Kibo Peak ahead. The slow pace helps your body adjust to altitude. You arrive early at Shira 2 Camp, allowing time to rest and enjoy the surroundings.

This is a key acclimatization day. You hike uphill toward Lava Tower, reaching a higher altitude before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy greatly improves acclimatization and summit success. The day ends at Barranco Camp, located below the impressive Barranco Wall, with stunning views of glaciers and valleys.

After breakfast, you climb the Barranco Wall, a fun and non-technical scramble that rewards you with incredible views once at the top. The trail then continues through ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. This is a moderate trekking day and another important step for altitude adaptation.

Today you hike to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt. The terrain becomes rocky and alpine, with colder temperatures. Upon arrival, you rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare your gear for the summit night. Your guides will give a full briefing to ensure you are ready.

You begin the summit climb around midnight. The slow, steady ascent leads you to Stella Point at sunrise, followed by the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photos, you descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp for overnight.

On the final day, you descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here, you sign out, receive your summit certificates, and transfer back to your hotel. This marks the end of an unforgettable 8 days Lemosho Route adventure.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward flight, or continue with a safari or Zanzibar extension if planned.
