Day by day itinerary

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Later in the day, you will meet your professional mountain guide for a full briefing about the 6 Days Machame Route climb. During this meeting, the guide will explain the trekking plan, safety procedures, altitude awareness, and what to expect each day on the mountain. A complete equipment check will be conducted to ensure you have all the necessary mountain gear. Any missing items can be rented in Moshi on this day.

After breakfast, you will drive for about one hour from Moshi to Machame Gate. After completing park registration and meeting your mountain crew, the trek begins. The trail climbs steadily through dense and beautiful rainforest. This section is often wet and muddy, with moss-covered trees and rich vegetation. The forest is alive with birds and wildlife, making the hike enjoyable despite the humidity. After approximately 6 hours of trekking, you arrive at Machame Camp, where your tents will be ready and dinner will be served.

The trek continues uphill as you gradually leave the rainforest and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper as you climb onto the Shira Plateau. After a steady climb of about 5 hours, you reach Shira Camp, set on the wide Shira Plateau with incredible panoramic views.

Today is an important acclimatization day following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. You trek across high moorland and alpine terrain on the southwestern side of Kilimanjaro. The route passes beneath the Lava Tower, reaching altitudes of up to 4,600 meters, allowing your body to adapt to thinner air. After lunch near the Lava Tower, you descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley. Barranco Camp lies beneath towering cliffs and glaciers, offering one of the most scenic camping locations on the mountain.

After breakfast, you begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep, it is non-technical and very rewarding, with spectacular views once you reach the top. The trail then continues across ridges and valleys with little vegetation, as you move deeper into the alpine desert zone. The climb to Barafu Camp is tough due to altitude, but the pace is slow and steady. Upon arrival, you rest, hydrate, and prepare for summit night. An early dinner is served before attempting to sleep, as wake-up time will be between 11:00 pm and midnight.

Around midnight, you begin the final ascent under the stars. The climb is steep and demanding as you trek on scree slopes toward the summit glaciers. After 4–5 hours, you reach Stella Point (5,739m) on the crater rim just as the sun begins to rise. The views are breathtaking, with ice cliffs inside the crater and stunning scenery toward Mawenzi Peak. After another hour of walking, you reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After photos and celebration, you descend back to Barafu Camp for breakfast before continuing down to Millennium Camp for a long, well-earned rest.
