This 4-day safari combines the best of southern Tanzania’s wildlife experiences in Mikumi and Nyerere National Parks. Starting from Dar es Salaam, the journey takes you to Mikumi’s open plains, famous for lions, elephants, giraffes, and zebras. Then, explore the vast wilderness of Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), known for its untouched nature and high chances of seeing wild dogs, crocodiles, and hippos. You’ll enjoy a thrilling boat safari on the Rufiji River and an exciting walking safari guided by a ranger — offering a close and unforgettable connection with nature.
This safari is perfect for travelers who want a true wilderness experience, far from the crowds.
After early breakfast in Dar es Salaam, your safari adventure begins with a scenic drive to Mikumi National Park. The journey takes about 5–6 hours, passing through charming villages and beautiful landscapes.
When you arrive, you will enjoy your first game drive in Mikumi. This park is home to many wild animals, including:
Lions resting in the sun
Elephants walking slowly across the plains
Zebras and giraffes grazing near the road
Wildebeests and buffalo in large groups
Many kinds of birds flying near waterholes
In the late afternoon, you will go to your lodge or camp inside or near the park, where you will have dinner and relax under the African sky.
Today starts with an early morning game drive in Mikumi while animals are still active. You may spot predators hunting or large elephants moving toward the water.
After breakfast, you’ll check out and begin your drive toward Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). The drive takes about 5–6 hours through a mix of forests and rural Tanzania.
In the evening, you will arrive at your lodge near the Rufiji River, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and prepare for an exciting day tomorrow.
After breakfast, your day begins with a thrilling boat safari on the Rufiji River. You’ll glide across the calm water, watching hippos, crocodiles, and birds up close. It’s a peaceful and unique way to explore the park.
Later in the day, enjoy a game drive through the vast and wild areas of Nyerere. Look out for:
Elephants walking through the trees
Wild dogs (rare and special to this park)
Lions and leopards hiding in the bush
Giraffes moving gracefully across the land
In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing night.
Start your day with a short walking safari, guided by an armed ranger. This is a special chance to see animals, plants, and footprints up close and learn how people and wildlife share the land.
After breakfast, begin your journey back to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the late afternoon with unforgettable memories of your safari.
