This 2-day Mikumi Safari is perfect for travelers with limited time who still want to enjoy a true African wildlife experience. Located just a few hours from Dar es Salaam, Mikumi National Park is known for its wide open landscapes, baobab trees, and amazing wildlife including lions, elephants, zebras, and more. It’s a great short escape into the wild.
Your adventure will begin early in the morning as you leave Dar es Salaam and drive to Mikumi National Park. The journey takes around 5 to 6 hours, passing through beautiful countryside, farms, and small villages.
Once you enter Mikumi, you will start your first game drive. The park is part of the larger Selous ecosystem and is home to many animals. During your game drive, you may see:
Large herds of elephants crossing the road
Lions resting under acacia trees
Zebras and wildebeests grazing in open fields
Giraffes walking gracefully through the savannah
Hippos and crocodiles near the waterholes
Many birds including colorful bee-eaters, hornbills, and storks
In the late afternoon, you will head to your lodge or tented camp inside or near the park for dinner and an overnight stay. Enjoy the quiet night with the sounds of nature around you.
Wake up early for a morning game drive when the animals are most active. You’ll explore different parts of the park and have more chances to spot wildlife in the golden morning light.
After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast, then begin your drive back to Dar es Salaam. You will arrive in the evening, ending your short but unforgettable safari adventure in Mikumi.
