In Case of a Medical Emergency During the Climb

In Case of a Medical Emergency During the Climb

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a great adventure, but it’s important to be prepared in case of a medical emergency. The mountain’s high altitude, cold weather, and physical challenge can sometimes lead to health problems like altitude sickness, injuries, or extreme fatigue. That’s why having a good support team and safety plan is very important.

Our Safety Measures on Kilimanjaro

We care about your safety. All our climbs are led by professional guides who are trained in Wilderness First Aid and High Altitude Response. They carry oxygen cylinders, pulse oximeters, and first aid kits on every trip. We also do daily health checks to monitor your oxygen levels and general condition.

What Happens If You Feel Unwell

If you begin to feel unwell whether it’s a headache, dizziness, nausea, or shortness of breath tell your guide immediately. Early detection of altitude sickness can save your life. Mild symptoms are often treated by rest, hydration, and medication. For serious conditions like Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) or High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE), we may recommend immediate descent or evacuation.

Emergency Evacuation Process

In case of a serious emergency:

  • You will be evacuated to lower altitude by stretcher or by foot with team support.
  • If the situation requires, we can organize rescue by helicopter (weather and coverage permitting).
  • We collaborate with local rescue services and air evacuation providers like AMREF Flying Doctors.

Travel Insurance Is Required

All climbers must have travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation above 6,000 meters. This ensures that in the rare case of a medical emergency, costs for treatment and evacuation are covered.

Why Climb with Us?

We take safety seriously. Our team is experienced, trained, and fully equipped to handle emergencies. When you climb with us, you’re not just chasing the summit you’re climbing with a team that puts your health and safety first.
