Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrival and Preparation

Upon your arrival in Kilimanjaro International Airport, our team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. You’ll have a briefing session with your guide, where you’ll receive all necessary information and gear for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Moshi to Rongai Gate (1,950m) to Simba Camp (2,600m)

After breakfast, you will drive from Moshi to the Rongai Gate, which takes about 3-4 hours. Once you complete the registration process, you will begin your trek through the cultivated fields and into the rainforest zone. You will reach Simba Camp after about 3-4 hours of hiking.

At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are useful. Shorts and t-shirts should be fine, but keep your rain gear and warmer clothes nearby.

7 days Lemosho Route

Day 3: Simba Camp (2,600m) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

You will continue your trek from Simba Camp through the heathland and moorland zones. You will have a steady climb to the Second Cave, where you will have lunch. Afterward, you will head towards Kikelewa Camp, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Kikelewa Camp (3,600m) to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)

Today, you will have a short but steep climb up grassy slopes. The views become more expansive as you leave the vegetation zone behind. You will reach Mawenzi Tarn Camp, situated in a spectacular cirque directly beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi.

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m) to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

You will cross the lunar desert of the "Saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo, reaching Kibo Hut in the early afternoon. The remainder of the day is spent resting and preparing for the final ascent, which begins around midnight.

Day 6: Kibo Hut (4,700m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

You will start your ascent around midnight, climbing through the dark up to Gilman's Point on the crater rim. From there, you will continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit, you will descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing to Horombo Hut.

  • Habitat: Arctic to Moorland

Day 7: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,880m)

On your final day, you will have a long descent through the rainforest to Marangu Gate. After saying farewell to your guides and receiving your summit certificates, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest.

On the night of the ascent to the summit, temperatures can vary from -10 to -20 degrees, so you need to be well covered to walk for 5 hours in the cold and darkness. It is advisable to wear between 5 and 6 layers, including a thermal base layer, insulating layers, and a heavy down jacket. Ski trousers and gaiters will keep your legs warm and dry. Additionally, wear a warm hat, a balaclava, and thick gloves to protect against the biting cold. A head torch is essential for the night climb, ensuring you can see the path ahead.
